Whew! It always takes me a little while to sift through the pictures (not to mention catch up on my sleep) after Quilt Market. I'm excited to share a brief recap + a few visual glimpses of all there was to see at Market.
Quilt Market is a trade show for the sewing and quilting industry and is not open to the general public. It is mainly for shop owners to get the chance to preview all that is new and coming out in the next 6 months.
I have attended Market for the past few years, but this is only the second time that I have had a booth at Market. (My first booth was to showcase Gingham Girls last spring in St. Louis.)
This time around I was showing quilts and other projects to help promote my next collection, Sunnyside Ave for Penny Rose Fabrics (part of Riley Blake Designs).
Here are a few more booth details. The patterns for the quilts in the booth will be available in February with lots more pictures and details to come as that gets closer. My shirts in these photos are made using the new Riley Blake Designs woven cotton gingham. Top shirt is the York top from Seamwork Magazine with and added ruffle on the sleaves. The bottom gingham top is the Tova pattern. Both were made by my friend Erika of Pink Suede Shoe.
A huge thank you to my friends Erika, Amy of Ameroonie Designs, and Melissa of Sew Shabby Quilting for helping me get ready. I literally couldn't have done it without them + they made me look good. You can read more about Sunnyside Ave here.
My booth neighbor this time around was the wonderful Bev from Flamingo Toes. She is debuting her first fabric collection, Vintage Daydream. Check out that darling camper. I was also totally digging the fabric globe. So many darling details in her booth.
More highlights from the Riley Blake Designs neighborhood: Derby Day by Melissa Mortenson of Polkadot Chair. More preppy horses in new colorways.
Amanda Herring shared two collections - her Flora and Faun collection that is hitting stores now and her upcoming collection coming out in May, Hello Lovely. Amanda won the Creativity award for her beautiful 'shop window' display. (And well deserved - Amanda is one of the most creative people I know!)
More adorable details, Lauren Nash of Transient Art shared her second collection, Bunnies and Blossoms. So much cuteness. And she hand made and painted that wooden sewing machine!!
Lindsay Wilkes of the Cottage Mama shared her upcoming collection, Mae Showers. Lindsay's prints are always very cheerful and vintage inspired. Check out those cute girls with the umbrellas!
Christopher (aka The Tattooed Quilter) Thompson's next collection is called Hello Baby with lot's of playful prints such as french fries and cheerful vegetables with happy faces.
Talented Jill Finley of Jillily Studios shared her new collection Monday, Monday (as well as her fantastic notions) and the delightful Geri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs previewed her upcoming collection Rustic Romance. Geri has some seriously clever quilt designs/skills.
Rounding out the Riley Blake booth a couple more details - on the left: darling bag made with Simple Simon and Co's Shine Bright - hitting stores now. Far right, upcoming collections Guinevere and Lancelot with the sweetest illustrations by new designer Rachel of Citrus and Mint.
I got to run around a little bit the last day and tried to snap a few pictures of other inspiring booths. Top: gorgeous patterns by Sewn Into the Fabric. Bottom left: The Fairy Tale Quilt by Lucy Carson Kingwell, and the ever popular Tula Pink.
Alison Glass never fails to inspire. LOVE that curtain of fabric pieces, not to mention a good color spectrum any day. Alison also designed the cover for the upcoming 2018 Quilter's Planner. I can't wait to get mine!
Another favorite is always the Art Gallery Booth. Dana of MADE Everyday has a new collection called Road Trip. Also, Tacos. Who can say no to Tacos? Top right is from Pat Bravo's new Indie Folk and Maureen Cracknell's preview of Flower Child. Seriously, all the Art Gallery colors just make me swoon.
It's always fun to see the what Cotton + Steel is up to. I always love their palettes too. The next Rifle collection is called Amalfi (far left). Center is their new collaboration with artist Christian Robinson. So colorful and whimsical and quirky. You can read more about this collaboration here.
Ella Blue is a fabric company from Australia. Those gorgeous, saturated florals are by Outback Wife, Gertrude Made and printed on bark cloth for a very authentic retro feel. I always love Jodi's colorful fabric (this collection is called Bug City) and adorable stuffies. (The giraffes!)
Vintage inspired fabrics and blocks by Atsuko Matsuyama. The blocks are from her book Happy Flower Quilts. So adorable.
Designers and details in the Moda booth (Clockwise started top left): the wonderful Sherri McConnell and her new collection, Front Porch, Gingiber's Cats!, April Rosenthal and Mama's Cottage, and Lella Boutique's newest collection, Nest.
Bonnie and Camille have a Christmas collection! Vintage Holiday, meeting Linzee Kull McCray and her debut collection Feed Sacks True Blue (oh boy, I'm such a sucker for Feed Sacks!), and adorable details from Stacy Iest Hsu's Home Sweet Home collection.
Details from the Monaluna booth (I always love Monaluna), Shari Butler and her darling Binding Babies, and a fun butterfly quilt from Cloud 9.
Heather Ross showed two new lines: Kinder (more apples! I think they were a trend this year...) and an adorable Christmas collection called Jingle. Sarah Fielke always has amazing quilts. Her newest collection is called Wordplay.
Another trio of amazing designers with Robert Kaufman: Elizabeth Hartman's new Terrrarium, Carolyn Friedlanders's Gleaned, and Violet Craft's Palm Canyon.
Inspiring details from Jen Kingwell, Aurifil, and Sasafrass Lane Designs.
Hank & Clementine collection from Michael Miller (I feel like pixelated quilts are definitely a popular trend right now) and the enthusiastic Christa Watson with her first collection Modern Marks.
And there you go. If you are feeling very inspired, but slightly overwhelmed, (and you are actually still reading this) then I have done a good job of accurately recreating the Quilt Market Experience.
It was definitely surreal to be in Houston after seeing all that the area has been through since Hurricane Harvey hit. It was also kind of crazy because games 3, 4, and 5 of the World Series were going on right next door to the convention center! What a crazy swing of events for one city. You'll be happy to know that a lot of the furniture used in many of the Market booths was donated immediately following the show to families who lost everything in the flooding. Felt good to know there was something meaningful coming out of the show.
One last thing: I brought back a bunch of loot from Market to giveaway to one of you. Just leave a comment saying Hi. I'll pick a random winner next Wednesday. (To leave a comment, click on the word bubble with the number inside just to the right of the title at the top of the post.) GIVEAWAY CLOSED
WINNER!

I'm definitely overwhelmed, but with excitement! I love to see all this talent and creativity in action!! I know I am using too many exclamation points, but I do feel out of bounds here. Your new collection is adorable. I won't be using this for a formal quilt to use for a coffin top any time soon. Ha ha. It is so joyful! Love it! I assume it plays well with your first, Gingham Girls which I must use soon. I can't just save it forever because you designed it. So silly of me.

Trade shows are about going a million miles an hour and trying to take in more than you can ever manage. So, good job showing that. Of course, this trade show has a lot more color and pretty displays than some of the more mundane things I've seen. Thanks for the tour.. and the giveaway.

Ruth L Bradford
That was a great update, Amy.....and I did read it all to the very end. I am now becoming familiar with all of those (including you) designers and just love their collections. However, I never see any of these collections where I live in Newfoundland, Canada. I did spend a couple of days in Hamilton, Missouri this summer (missed Jenny though) and perused all those lovely stores at Missouri Star Quilt Company. I picked up several of the Gingham Girls precuts. For now, I am just savoring them, looking at them, taking them apart, putting them back together again. Just waiting for that special project....maybe that Irish chain pattern of yours. Fabric is very, very expensive north of the border, so I believe it is time to start ordering online...it seems to be the only place to get those special collections. Thanks for all your great ideas.
Barb N
