I’m so in love with this guest post project today. Amanda Woodruff is shaing a simple, but stunning quilt block pattern with all of you! The finished quilt is a beautiful example of how taking a traditional quilt block and making it with only two colors, gives the whole quilt a fresh, modern feel.
Add the fact that it’s a subtle, low volume gray and white palette and it’s even more striking, if you ask me. Here’s more about the project (as well as a special discount) from Amanda:
Hi! It’s Amanda from Westwood Acres.
Normally I love sharing about our Liberty club & low volume clubs, but today I’m excited to share a new project with you!
Lately I’ve been loving the simplicity of 2 color quilts. They look beautiful on beds and never go out of style. This particular pattern has been one of my favorites to play with over the last year, tweaking and trying out new things as I go.
For instance, I made my double star quilt with half square triangles. I didn’t love squaring all those pieces up, so I wrote down a more elegant solution. Hopefully, you’ll love the results as much as I do!
The blocks finish at 16″ x 16″. I’ve worked up the directions in a handy printable (click here to download).
Or pin this image to save this page for later.
Post update: I’ve had a couple of people ask me about yardage requirements for this block/quilt.
To make one block alone you’ll need a 1/4 yard of the white and 1/4 yard of the gray.
To make the quilt you’ll need 6 1/2 yards of the background color (white) for blocks + sashing/borders and 4 yards of the contrast color (gray).
Thanks so much Amanda! In addition to Amanda’s beautiful shop, Westwood Acres, you can see more of Amanda’s great projects and tutorials on her Instagram and blog, A Crafty Fox.

April 7, 2018 at 3:33 pmI like the quilt very much, but I don’t like being required to give my email and personal info just to look at the pattern. I gave it a pass.

April 7, 2018 at 7:24 pmMy fault – I messed up when I loaded the guest post, but it’s been fixed! The post has been updated with the option to download the pattern PDF without any info required.
Thanks, Pam.

February 16, 2019 at 9:48 amI am fairly new to quilting and I made this quilt block as a gift. It came out beautiful! My only trouble with it was that I had to press that first triangle open prior to the second triangle addition in order for it to lay flat, maybe i am doing something wrong but i couldn’t get it to open correctly unless i pressed that first seam prior to sewing the second seam on the flying geese. Aside from that it was super easy to follow for a beginner and i will definitely make it again! I wish I could figure out how to upload a picture! I used a bright blue floral for the center star and a navy blue floral for the outside star. I am planning to frame it as a gift for a friend. This is going into my “favorite” block quilt pile!

September 23, 2020 at 5:15 pmYou mentioned sashing & borders in the materials but the instructions don’t address them at all from what I can see.
