A few years ago, kind reader Beth submitted an idea to help her home state of California as it was being ravaged by destructive wildfires. She created a California pixelated patchwork quilt design and offered to share it with all proceeds going to Wildfire Relief.
The pattern was originally hosted on Bluprint with all of the sales proceeds going directly to the California Wildfire Relief Fund. Since Bluprint's abrupt shut down last spring, we've needed a new home for this pattern. After discussing with Beth we're going to cut out the middle man. You can click below to save the pattern for free, but we encourage you to directly make a $10 (or anything really) donation to the California Wildfire Relief Fund - or any other relief agency you prefer.

Here is Beth's latest version and her own words about why she's sharing this pattern:
From designer, Beth: “I’m a California girl, it is my home. And California is hurting right now. I hope that my fellow California quilters—those who live here or those who just love the Golden State—can join together to make a difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires in California. I’m a little nervous sending this pattern out into the big wide world of experienced quilters—any mistakes are mine, and I apologize in advance. I am so thankful for Amy’s willingness to help use her blog, brand and time to facilitate this fundraising effort. Whether you make it with the blues of the Pacific, the green of it’s verdant fields, the yellows and oranges of the desert, or any other combination that makes you think of your California home, I am so excited for you to make it your own. Thank you. #californiahomequilt”
This variation of the My California Home pixelated quilt is made by Alli Jensen of Woodberry Way. As you can see, Alli made the ocean and neighboring state Nevada from monochromatic patchwork squares also - a really fun variation.
You can read more about Alli's modifications in her post here.
Both of my own parents were born in California and my mom was raised in the Bay area until she left for college. We have lots of fond memories of visiting family and vacationing in that state. Our hearts and prayers are with those who are fighting and those in harm's way. We're also thinking of those in the path of other natural disasters in this country and around the world. These are humbling events that remind us of our common humanity and are opportunities to bring us together as citizens and human beings.
Thanks to all who have expressed interest in this pattern and for your patience while I set up a new way to make it accessible.

Thank you for using your influence for good! This is such a good idea! I feel much better after donating. How else can we begin to grow new redwoods for our descendants to enjoy in some future year?

What a wonderful and generous gift. I'm in Oregon with the same problem of wildfires, but grew up in California. Lost relatives and their homes in Paradise. Donated quilts and money and household items then. Family lost homes in the Santa Rosa fire the year before. S many fires.. Thank you!
Alison
Thank you for sharing this quilt. Big Basin Redwood State Park was hit hard by the fires. Given my fond memories of wandering its trails, I chose to contribute to this fund: https://www.savetheredwoods.org/get-involved/take-action/lets-bring-big-basin-back/

Oh how tragic!! I'm so glad (but really sorry too) that you could support them. xo
