I got my Red and White Fast Churn Dash quilt back from the quilter last week! In my humble opinion, you can never go wrong with a classic red and white quilt. The combination never goes out of style. This quilt was made with my Fast Churn Dash quilt pattern.
The pattern, Fast Churn Dash, is perfect for making with Fat Quarters or Fat Eighths. This quick method allows you to make 2 blocks at once and uses the fabric super efficiently with very minimal waste. (I personally, love patterns like that!)
And the Fast Churn Dash pattern is the pattern of the week marked down 20% off!
This quilt is technically made with Christmas prints from the Peace on Earth collection for Riley Blake - but most of the prints are simple red and white basics and good for any season of the year including buffalo checks, large scale plaids, toiles and ticking stripes.
The mix of scales, tones and textures give the quilt a lot of depth for a two-color quilt.
So maybe I'm a little late for Christmas next year, but I prefer to looking at it as being way ahead of Christmas 2025. 😉 Plus, I like to use keep red + white quilts out all winter. They're cheery when it's dreary outside and they look festive for Valentine's in February.
If you're looking for a red and white collection that's not Christmas, check out Riley Blake's Heirloom Red collection that comes out this month.
For the backing I used this wide back piece I already had on hand called Snowed In (hard to find now but still available here). But there are also coordinating snowflake 108" wide backs for the Peace on Earth collection available from the Fat Quarter Shop and Etsy here and here.
The binding is the red ticking stripe cut on the bias. (Because I never get tired of a good bias-stripe-binding.
The quilt was quilted by Melissa Kelley of Sew Shabby Quilting using her pantograph, Interstellar. It's perfect for the winter-y vibe of this quilt.
I also got out into the mountains with my Sherpa (aka husband) last week for the first time this winter. This is one of my favorite things to do and I was so glad we were finally did it! He is always a great sport about being a willing holder when I bring a quilt along for the ride. Not the hike - even I'm not that committed. lol.
When we hike in the winter we wear spikes on our hiking boots, making it easy to walk on the snow. As the kid who used to cry the whole way home from skiing, I'm still surprised at how much I love this as an adult.
I think there are many reasons: good exercise in fresh mountain air, with the spikes on my feet feel steady, the trails aren't crowded, and the world feels quiet and clean. The snow even muffles sound, adding to the peace. Pure serenity. So good for my mental health.

This quilt is beautiful. I like the red and white and the binding is particularly perfect.

I love the red and white churn dash quilt. The pattern is so versatile. It could be made in tons of other colors for different occasions/holidays.

I absolutely agree that a good ol' red and white quilt is hard to beat! Love this quilt and your thoughts on snow hiking!

That picture of the snowy woods reminds me of my backyard view when I lived in Pennsylvania. I used to lob apples from my deck to the deer who came by in winter!

Forgot to add: Love the red churn dash!

Thanks so much for the pics, info & links. I especially enjoyed the photos in the snow and loved seeing that quilt exhibit in New York.
