Hello everyone! I hope summer is treating you well! With the July 4th holiday here last week, we had a lot of family time going on - both my husband and I had siblings from out of state come to town and it was great to be with them. So last week included lots of swimming, cousin time, late nights, and good food.
By the end of the week we had a lot of great new memories, but I was pooped! And even further behind than before on my to-do lists. This week I'm trying to get back on schedule (if that even exists in the summer). I'm feeling way behind on so many things, but at the same time just trying to enjoy the summerness of summer. I'm sure you all relate. We'll all catch up at some point.
I'm excited to introduce the featured Sew Goodness charity this month and another great cause to sew for: Skirting the Issue hosted by the wonderful Elizabeth and Liz of Simple Simon and Co.
Every July they host a challenge to sew skirts for girls in Foster Care. These two women have the best hearts. You can read more about their own moving personal experiences with foster care that inspired them to start this challenge HERE and HERE.
The skirts don't need to be fancy or elaborate. The Simple Simon girls have a huge list of free skirt tutorials here.
I have a really simple Fat Quarter Skirt tutorial here - it's a great way to bust some stash and with an elastic waistband, it can come together really fast!
To make this month even more fun, the Simple Simon girls have prizes and giveaways for those to contribute a charitable sewing project this month, to causes in addition to skirts, including quilts for Project Linus, Pillowcases for local hospitals, and dresses for Little Dresses for Africa! If you have made anything for those causes this year (each has been a Sew Goodness feature already this year!) share a picture of what you've made on this post and you'll be entered into a drawing for sewing prizes!
If you have a project that's not quite finished, this might be a good motivation to finish! You have until August 15 to share your photo at Simple Simon and Co.

Finally, remember, the purpose of Sew Goodness is to shine a spotlight on sewing for a good cause, NOT to add more guilt or stress to anyone's life! It's all about creating more good feelings in our lives by helping others, not bad feelings for not being able to "do it all." Some months (years?) we all have more time or resources to give than others. That's totally normal. We all need to remember to pace ourselves. If you're already working on a favorite charitable cause, keep going with that one! If all you have to give some months is a smile to someone who needs it, you're doing great! Carry on.
