Woven Ginghams + Vintage & Modern

Some more Gingham Girls projects to share + the release of gorgeous new woven ginghams!

I’ve been working on a few last-minute projects for my booth at Quilt Market next week. I had fun sewing some scraps to create this cute little bunting. I used a heavier weight thread (Aurifil 12 weight) and a larger needle and then just chained them through my machine. They’re both fast and festive. I think I’ll make a few more.

And I love the way they match my Summer Bunting quilt.

In some very fun news, I am curating the June Quilter’s Candy Box! It’s going to be filled with some Gingham Girls fun. They are taking orders starting tomorrow! (And it may include a certain aforementioned pattern, cough, cough…)

Last week Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl shared this awesome pattern using Gingham Girls called Circa 1974. I love the way these prints work with denim! I’ve been wanting to try it myself, but haven’t had the time. They really pop against the darker blue.

Amanda also found these vintage dresses that she wore back in the 1970’s. Aren’t they great? And don’t they work perfectly with that Gingham Girls fabric?!

My mom also pulled out some of her own vintage dresses from that decade. She used the scraps from this dress in the original quilt that inspired the collection. This print is still one of my favorites and we used it to inspire a reproduction print that is in the collection!

My mom made both dresses in the early 1970’s. The green gingham dress with the hand-embroidered daisies was made to wear as her going-away dress after her wedding reception. Isn’t that awesome?!

Another fun announcement – Riley Blake is producing woven ginghams for the first time that coordinate with this collection. The advanced yardage arrived and they are gorgeous! The scale of the checks are 1/2″ and the drape on this fabric is to die for – light and flowy. I’m having a shirt made from the navy to wear to Market next week. I can’t wait to play with the others! You’ll be seeing more of them in coming posts and I’ll share where they’re for sale as soon as they’re in stock.

The coolest part of their arrival is seeing what a hot trend Gingham is this spring in super trendy stores like Anthropologie, Madewell, and J.Crew. I love it! You can see more gingham inspiration – both vintage and modern in this pin board.

Finally – don’t forget, if you’re local to Utah, you’re invited to a fun Gingham Girls party at American Quilting in Orem, Utah on Friday, May 12 from 6:30 – 8:00. There will be some special discounts + you’ll have a chance to win giveaways! Wear some gingham – or bring a gingham memory – and come party like it’s 1979!

It’s been a long time since I’ve really fallen in love with an entire fabric line, but I am head over heels for this one! I’m going to want yards of every print! 🙂 I’ve been drooling over it since you first shared it with us. It’s wonderful!

Adorable fabrics. I love the “old” dresses and style. “Doze were duh days”, as my very Dutch mom used to say.
