We are finally getting some sunshine and blue skies around here. The temperatures aren’t quite March-worthy yet (but then again, March is pretty all over the place) – as in it’s still coat weather outside. But I am finally starting to believe that spring might actually come. So in honor of that, I thought it would be fun to share a spring-inspired quilt! This crib quilt is made with my Double Crossed pattern.
For years, this has been one of my go-to patterns for a scrappy feel. It’s great for using up scraps or fat quarters.
This latest version was made by my friend Suzy J featuring the Fairy Dust collection by Ashley Collette for Riley Blake Designs.
These prints include fairies, unicorns, and rainbows with a modern (less cutesy) vibe and color palette. There are also hints of gold sparkle throughout the prints.
Stitches N Giggles has put together a quilt kit using this fabrics here.
Suzy used a Riley Blake Sparkler Basic for the back (color Bleached Denim). The Sparkler basics are a perfect compliment to this collection with a hint of gold sparkle in the print. Other coordinating Sparkler Basics colors include Mediterranean, Songbird, and Apricot.
You can see a few other previous versions of this quilt below.
On the left is a the original quilt that I made for a new nephew who has now turned 12. Whoa. The modern looking quilt on the right was made about 6 years ago. Another version is one made in prints inspired by vintage sheets and linens
The key to tying this scrappy quilt together is the sashing fabric. That choice can change the whole look of the quilt! Sometimes I like white as kind of a soothing blender. Other times a brighter color to really pop.
The types of fabrics used can also change the whole look of the quilt. The quilt on the left above has more of a vintage vibe, where as the quilt on the right right above, is a little more modern. That version also has a variety of sashing colors to give it a different feel.
You can find the Double Crossed pattern in my Quilt Shop. The pattern includes instructions for two sizes: Crib (42″ x 56″) and Twin (72″ x 86″). It’s technically a one-block quilt so you could create more or fewer blocks to make a bigger or smaller version.
This quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly.
As I mentioned you can find the Double Crossed Quilt pattern HERE. Pattern is available in booth PDF or printed options available.
Thanks so much for stopping by! May Spring head your way soon too!

I love every single version of this pattern and that’s the sign of a great pattern! I bought the pattern years ago and have never gotten around to making it, but that’s fixing to change because this post has inspired me to pull some fabrics and begin cutting. Guess I just needed a nudge 😉 – thank you!

Hi, I live in Perth West Australia and I love this quilt. I would love to have a go at it. I an in my early 70s and have been sewing quilts for the last 13 years. I love having a go at a different pattern to what I normally sew..
