This week I finished putting together this cute LOVE mini quilt. This Made With Love mini quilt is a free PDF download from The Fat Quarter Shop! There is also an adorable coordinating free cross-stitch pattern here.
For the fabric on this quilt I used a combination of current Riley Blake Valentine's collections. The red prints, stripe and the Valentine toile are from J. Wecker Frisch’s All My Heart collection.
The warm red-on-pink prints are from Sandy Gervais’ I Love Us collection. For the background print I’m using Riley Blake’s Heart Seasonal Basic. (This similar pink Blossom print would also give a similar look.)
The all-over background design quilting was done using the embroidery arm/function on my Baby Lock Destiny II sewing machine. The heart quilting is a digital download file from Kimberbell Designs.
I used the Kimberbell Clear Blue Tiles system for prepping and marking the quilting areas. It's SO easy and simple to succeed. You can see how the system works here. Before quilting, you hoop all three layers - top, batting and backing - into the machine's embroidery hoop. (I love not having to base because the hoop holds everything securely!)
Another bonus of the Clear Blue Tiles system is there are dozens and dozens of quilting designs to choose from. I really love how these loopy hearts turned out. This will be a quilting design that I can see myself using over and over.
For an extra quick finish, I machine bound the quilt using my new, trusty Quilt Binding Foot. (You can see how easy and awesome this simple Quilt Binding foot is here.)
And now I've got some cheerful Valentine's décor to enjoy before the holiday. This was such a quick little project - you still have plenty of time to get one made by Valentine's Day. ❤
You can find the free quilt pattern PDF download here as well as a coordinating kit with fabric by J. Wecker Frisch as seen below:
You can also find lots more Valentine quilting projects + handmade gift ideas here.
And speaking of the Fat Quarter Shop: this month they are having 30% off all Olfa Products. If you are in need of a quality rotary cutter or fresh blades, now is the time to get them!
Olfa cutters are hands down my favorite. I love the simple and inexpensive Splash, and it's so easy to change the blade. but in recent years I'm using the ergonomic Splash cutter all the time. I LOVE it. Truly - a decent rotary cutter is the best notions investment you can make!
