    Valentines Day Sewing Projects

Last Modified: January 17, 2025 by Amy · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 25 Comments

I always enjoy making Valentine's Day sewing projects. There are so many fun Valentines sewing ideas out there including quilts, mini quilts, and handmade bags perfect for Valentine gifting! I thought I'd share a few projects that I've made in the past as well as update the list of some of my favorite ideas for Valentines quilts and sewing projects for 2025.

35 Adorable Valentine and Heart Sewing Projects

Here are a few of my own Valentine sewing projects over the recent years. In recent years the Fat Quarter Shop has featured a free Valentines mini quilt and cross-stitch pattern. Here is the quilt I made last year:

Free Made With Love mini quilt pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. Fabric by Riley Blake Designs.

You can find the free quilt pattern PDF download here as well as the free coordinating cross-stitch pattern here.

Here is the free Love Note mini quilt I made in 2023. It's a super quick one.

Go here to access both 2023 free patterns.

And here is the 2025 pattern! You can find the 2025 Little Loves pattern here plus a kit option, and the cross-stitch pattern here.

Probably my favorite Valentine's mini quilt I've made is this one called Down Memory Lane and I used this pattern from Aqua Paisley Studio.

I loved pulling red fabrics that are sentimental favorites. I used all of the reds from my first 3 fabric collections (Gingham Girls, Sunnyside Ave, and Gretel) to make it a mini record of sorts (the name for the quilt pattern is perfect).  The background fabric is the red blossom basic from Riley Blake.

You can see the finished version of the Down Memory Lane heart quilt here. It's still hanging in my sewing room. 🙂

If you're looking for more heart ❤ inspiration, here are a bunch of other favorite sewing and quilting projects perfect for Valentines (or any Love-filled day)! Some are patterns to buy, others are tutorials. There's so much fun stuff to choose from!

    Heart and Love-themed Quilts

One of my favorite (and easiest) heart projects is this throw-size Pixelated Heart Patchwork Quilt - looks so cute in lots of different colors!

    Navy patchwork pixelated heart quilt

Here's another pixelated heart quilt variation. Free pattern from Kitchen Table Quilting:

This fresh modern take on a ❤ quilt is so popular - the I Heart You quilt pattern from Pen and Paper Patterns.

I love the scrappy, patchwork feel of this Love Drops quilt free tutorial + pattern Holly Lesue of Maker Valley.

What's not to love (get it?) about this graphic LOVE quilt?! It's called I Love You and I Like You also from Maker Valley

Quilty Hearts scrappy quilt pattern by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love.

Emily has another scrappy heart quilt pattern called Infinite Hearts

Emily has a bunch of adorable heart quilt patterns here - including a brand new one for 2025.

Allison from Cluck Cluck Sew has a collection of free projects with patchwork hearts:

as well as this quilt pattern Box of Hearts in her shop.

I love this scrappy quilt called Build a Heart from Andy of A Bright Corner

Hearts and Kisses featuring Vintage Keepsakes quilt pattern by Bev McCullough of Flamingo Toes

I Heart You Pattern by Vanessa Christenson and is perfect for making with her Ombre fabric collections:

Amber also has a brand new heart quilt block pattern called Always and Forever available in PDF or Paper copies.

Shades of Love table topper by Amy Friend

I think Jeni Baker's Heart Crossed quilt tutorial is a cool modern variation on a Valentine's quilt.

Heart Quilt Blocks and Mini Quilts

A mini quilt is always perfect for sewing holiday projects when you don't have time to make a big quilt.

or check out this Pixelated Heart Mini Quilt pattern here from A Bright Corner:

Love Struck Heart Quilt Block - free pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew:

These ❤ mini quilts or "mug rugs" from Ameroonie Designs are so sweet and doable!

Ombre (or Striped) Heart Quilt Block Tutorial from The Crafty Quilter:

Nadra Ridgeway of Ellis and Higgs has this bunch of adorable Valentine-themed quilt blocks in her Etsy shop.

How adorable is this Valentine Mug quilt block from Burlap and Blossoms? Traditionally pieced and comes in 6", 12", 18" and 24" finished block sizes.

Small Valentines Day Sewing Projects and Handmade Gift Ideas:

These quick and Easy Fat Quarter Bags are perfect for Valentine's Day when you use some cute red-heart fabric. (These prints are from my out-of-print Gretel collection.)

Adding the applique to the front of the bag is so simple. I used a raw-edge applique, so I didn't even turn the fabric under. I cut out my shape from the accent fabric. Before assembling the bags, fold the outside bag fabric in half vertically so that it's roughly the shape of the finished bag. Then fold horizontally and crease so that you can easily find the center for the applique.

Pin or glue in place and then stitch around the edges a few times with a straight stitch on your sewing machine to secure in place. (Or you could use a product like Wonder Under to secure in place and give a little more stability if you want.)

These bags come together SO quickly and they make the cutest gift bags. You can find the full Easy Fat Quarter Bag Tutorial here.

I'm intrigued. I'm not American - do you really decorate for Valentine's Day? Or is it more of case of 'let's find a reason to make another quilt'? 😉

Yep, we decorate for pretty much every holiday! Halloween has become as crazy with the decorating the outside as Christmas.

Where there's chocolate....Americans are on it
Many people get married on that day, so it's an anniversary day. Most couples celebrate their feelings with candy, flowers and romantic dinners, school kids trade tiny cards.
So yea, any day is a good day to put a love note in a lunch box, light candles at bedtime, snuggle with your kids under a heart quilt after heart shaped pancakes for dinner!

I don’t know how you do it. Another fantastic post Amy. I love winter here too. Snow is an equalizer as it makes everyone’s home and yards look magical. I like that I don’t have to do yard work and now I’m retired I can be in my cozy home and only go out if and when I want to. The Valentines projects are all pretty awesome. Thank you again.
