Sugarhouse Star Quilt Pattern + NEW Baby Size Version

Last Modified: May 20, 2023 by Amy · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 2 Comments

Over the past months I’ve been sharing the quilt patterns that I made with my Portsmouth Fabric Collection for Riley Blake Designs. This pattern, Sugarhouse Star, is one of my favorites for a fast, large-scale quilt. AND it’s precuts-friendly for both 5″ Charms or 10″ Layer Cakes! I’ve made lots of variations of this traditional patchwork star quilt and with this release I’ve added some size variations including King size and a brand new Baby quilt version.

Sugarhouse star is a perfect quilt for using precut 5″ or 10″ squares. Because of the large scale of the blocks, the quilt comes together really quickly.

The finished quilt in the original size measures 78″ x 78″. It would make a great quilt for Quilts of Valor.

I always love to see how quilt patterns look in different fabrics and color palettes. You can see some of the previous variations of this Sugarhouse Star Quilt Pattern here.

Because of the large scale of this quilt, it’s a great one for making into a bed size quilt. The new, updated pattern instructions include the measurements to make a 106″ x 106″ King Size quilt.

(Because this quilt is a square, it’s trickier to modify, so I don’t have instructions to make into a Twin or Queen size version. But you could play with border widths to make a custom-sized quilt.)

Kits for the Throw-size Sugarhouse Star quilt are available from Cotton Cache and Seaside Quilt Shop.

    New Baby Size Quilt Pattern

Last year, before my Portsmouth yardage was available, I only had small scraps of strike-off sample fabric – so I used them to make this scaled down version as a test quilt. (Here’s the size comparison.)

I’ve since had lots of positive feedback on the smaller version and finally got around to writing up the pattern for this 40″ x 40″ baby or wall-quilt variation.

Through the end of June, the Baby/Wall size version will be included for free with the purchase of the original Sugarhouse Star Quilt pattern.

For those who might already have the original pattern or are only interested in the small version, the Baby Sugarhouse Star Quilt Pattern is available for sale separately in PDF only.

(Later this summer it will be released separately in print and PDF formats.)
